Journeying with those Celebrating Easter Sacraments

On the third, fourth and fifth Sundays of Lent, during the 9:30am Masses, we proclaim a Gospel different than at the other Masses, and include special prayers for those in our parish community journeying toward celebration of the Easter Sacraments. These Gospels call us to allow our relationship with Jesus to transform us.
These Gospel passages show a progression of the miracles of Jesus:
- The personal transformation of the Woman at the Well
- The physical transformation of the man born blind while the entire town looked on
- The resurrection of Lazarus in front of elders, pharisees, family and friends
Jesus was plotted against and condemned by the elders because he called God his Father, and because he had the audacity to perform “these miracles on the Sabbath.”

These Gospel passages and prayers help those preparing for the Easter Sacraments, and all of us, gain strength to overcome worldly temptations. This strength comes from hearing and reflecting on the Word of God, from the prayers and support from the parish community, and from daily prayer and reflection.
Pope Francis calls us to welcome everyone, listen to one another’s stories and not draw undue attention to rules, laws, or patterns of thinking.
As we journey to the cross of Good Friday, we consider whether we are living according to the truth revealed by Jesus and allowing this truth to flow out of the love Jesus revealed.
Are we choosing to have our thoughts and actions flow from, and to, love?
