We celebrate the visit of the magi to the child Jesus. They follow the light of a star to find the light of the world. We don’t have to travel anywhere except into the depths of our being to experience the gentle glow of the light of Jesus. We pray that our actions will reflect that light to one another and to our world so that more and more people will choose to look inside and allow the light they have from Jesus to shine brightly so that together we can transform our world in praise of our Divine Savior.

We invite all those who have been away from the Church to connect with our parish and discover how your faith can be renewed in a welcoming and accepting environment. Were you raised Catholic but do not come or seldom come to church anymore?
The Gospel passage for today makes clear the serious decision St. Joseph made when he realized that Mary was pregnant. The gospel does not describe how Joseph felt about the situation, only that he initially did not want anything to do with Mary given her circumstances. Regardless of how he felt, he was very attentive to what his inner being, (his intuition Holy Spirit) expressed to him through an angel in a dream. We pray that we continue to develop our attentiveness to our inner resources (Holy Spirit) so that we will be able to cooperate ever more fully with God’s plan to make Jesus known in our world.
Advent is a time to imagine what we can do to transform our world in order to get things more the way God designed them to be from the very beginning. Once again, the Gospel for this Sunday provides us with what Jesus accomplished through His cooperation with His/our Heavenly Father. He paid special attention to those with special needs so that they would be the more able to participate in building the community that Jesus came to establish. We are called to continue the mission of Jesus.
In this Sunday’s Gospel, we hear of one description of John the Baptist as well as his message. At first glance, his life seems rather austere and his message on the harsh side. But there is no doubt that he took his mission quite seriously, that of preparing the way for Jesus. We pray that in gratitude to him we, too, can see that our mission is to collaborate with God in transforming our world into what God has intended all along, namely, one in which we address the needs of the poor and afflicted.
